A 14–year–old Morgan County Middle School student was struck in the jaw last week with enough force to dislodge two teeth, requiring dental surgery.
According to Capt. Chris Bish, Criminal Investigations Division, Morgan County Sheriff’s Office, a 13–year–old male student was arrested and charged with battery in the incident.
Bish said on Friday, October 28, the 13–year–old struck the other child in the jaw with his fist. The 13–year–old student was arrested at his Newton County home on Monday, Bish said, and transported to the Youth Detention Center where he remained until the result of a juvenile detention hearing scheduled for Tuesday, November 1.
Bish said the incident occurred in the school’s gymnasium at approximately 7:40 a.m. as students were waiting to go to class. The blow “required emergency medical response,” he said.
