With the holidays behind us, the JV teams are back in action. Morgan’s girls took their first win of the New Year by defeating Hart County 41-31 at the Dog House last Thursday. Coach Brett Bell’s team is now back in the black with a 4-3 record after the win.
The two squads played to a 10-10 draw after eight minutes. The Lady Dogs went cold in the second quarter only recording two points and fell behind 19-12 at the half. Hart started the second stanza with a three pointer and built on their lead with layups and free throws.
The second half was a totally different story as Morgan began wreaking havoc with their full court zone press causing turnovers and creating easy layups. They took the third quarter lead after scoring 10 straight points at 26-25 with 2:03 left. MOCO would never trail after that. The third period ended 28-25 with Morgan having a big quarter. They outscored the visiting Lady Dogs 16-6.
Taylor Wilson carried the offense in the final quarter scoring seven of the Lady Dogs’ 13 to take the victory.
Leading scorers for the game were NeShay Cobb with 12, Wilson with 11, and Tamia Benford with 10. Other players who contributed were Kourtney Elder, Arkisha Williams, and Jamie Puckett. The next game for the girls will be at home Friday against Monroe Area at 4:15.
