The Morgan County tennis teams cranked up their seasons last week with matches over Archer, George Walton, and Oconee County. Both the boys and girls took wins over Archer and George Walton before falling to powerhouse Oconee.
The girls defeated Archer 4-2 with singles’ players Chloe Cooper, Carley Henry, Avery Kirby, and Madison Gasque sweeping. The Lady Dogs then swept all singles’ and doubles’ matches against George Walton for the 6-0 victory. Oconee County’s Lady Warriors defeated Morgan 1-6, but some great individual efforts were shown by MOCO. Kirby won her number three singles match 6-0, 6-2. Gasque and Caroline Rittenhouse played well in a losing cause at number one doubles losing in a third set tie break.
Morgan’s boys fared well against Archer winning 5-1 before dispatching of George Walton 3-2. Chandler Brady and Will Owen won easily at number one and two singles against George Walton. Brady took care of business defeating his opponent 6-1, 6-2 and Owen followed that up with a 6-0, 6-0 match. Noah Harris fought his way back to win in a tie break at number three singles while the number two doubles team of Ben Gill and Nick Lewan lost in a very tough tie break. The boys then took on Oconee County and lost 0-6.
Next up for JV and varsity tennis will be February 27 at 4p.m.
