Morgan’s track teams continue to shine in all events with big wins over both Putnam County and Greene County this past week. Coach Leland Ready has done an outstanding job along with his assistants to turn the program around. MCHS will have a number of state contenders in several events this year as the regular season winds down and the AAA State Track and Field Meet looms right around the corner.
The boys came away with the win in a photo finish that saw Morgan top their rivals by a score of 56.5 to Putnam’s 55.5 and Greene’s 45 points. Ready said, “The boys meet came right down to it, but we pulled it out in the end.” Dalton Shaw unofficially set the school record with a time of 2.08 minutes in the 800 meters.
The girls won by a large margin with Morgan scoring 65 points to Greene’s 52 and Putnam’s 42. The Lady Dogs were led by superstar junior Aris Hubbard’s performance that gained her high medalist honors for the girls’ meet. She won the long jump, 100 and 200 meters, and participated on the 4×100 relay team that took first place honors as well.
