Y’allywood is booming this week as “The Rock” (A.K.A. Dwayne Johnson) is filming a new blockbuster film right here in Morgan County. Johnson is the lead role in “Rampage,” a sci-fi action movie based on the classic 1980s videogame that features monsters destroying cities and iconic American landmarks.
Scenes for the New Line Cinema film were shot in a secluded field and wooden area belonging to Williams Dairy out in the county. Security guards blocked off the area during filming hours last Monday and Tuesday.
Johnson rose to fame as a professional wrestler before jumping onto the silver screen in memorable roles in films like “The Scorpion King,” “Hercules,” and “The Fast and the Furious” franchise.
Johnson released a statement to fans when he was selected for the role on Instagram.
“We have a shot to raise the bar and make something cool with this one as the basic storyline is three mutated gigantic monsters (Silverback, Alligator and Wolf) destroy major cities and landmarks across the US…If you were a fan of the video game like I was, then you know how…fun this movie can be. I’ll try not to screw it up.”
The film is set for release sometime in April 2018 in 3D by IMAX.
The cast also includes Jeffrey Dean Morgan, a fan-favorite from The Walking Dead and Grey’s Anatomy, Malin Akerman, of Watchmen and The Proposal, and Naomie Harris, of SkyFall and Moonlight.
