Take time this week to drive by the Morgan County Recreation Department and you’ll likely see a multitude of cars, young players, parents, grandparents, umpires, and fans jamming the grounds. The reason behind the madness is that the Morgan County Recreation Department will be hosting three different state tournaments this week.
The secret is out, folks. Our county’s Rec Department has made a name for themselves over the years for being one of the best in the state. Led by long-time employee and now Director, Lance Alexander, the department is renowned for its ability to run first-class tournaments. Located on the I-20 and 441 intersection makes Madison the perfect stopping off point for tourists and travelers. Our many restaurants, hotels, and businesses give tournament goers plenty of options for accommodations, food of every variety, and plenty of businesses to pick up all the necessities the rabid fans need for a week at the ballfield. The influx of teams will bring to Madison and Morgan County a post-fourth boon in business starting Monday, July 10 and ending with championship games being played Thursday and Friday, July 13-14.
Morgan’s host teams will participate in each of the three events. The three tournaments are for the 2017 GRPA Class C State Championships and include 7-8 year-old Coach Pitch Baseball, 10 and under Machine Fastpitch Softball , and 10 and under Live Pitch Baseball.
