Ozell Watkins Moss

Ozell Watkins Moss, 91 of Madison, died July 15, 2017.  Mrs. Moss was born July 5, 1926 in Ellijay to Bill and Dessie May Dotson.  She was married to the late Lawrence Moss.  She was a member of Brownwood Baptist Church.  Mrs. Moss was a loving mother and grandmother.  She enjoyed gardening and quilting. 

She loved her church family and was active in her church as long as she was able.

Mrs. Moss is survived by her children, Judy Wilkison and Sam, William Michael Watkins, Janice Ruth Mullins and Vernon, Kenneth Ray Watkins and Virginia Sue Beckham and Steve.  She leaves 20  grandchildren and numerous great grandchildren. 

Mrs. Moss was preceded in death by her husband, Lawrence Moss and sons, Jimmy Leon Watkins and Bobby Lance Watkins.

The family received friends on Wednesday from 6:30-8:30 p.m. at A.E. Carter Funeral Home.  The funeral service will be Thursday at 11 a.m. at Brownwood Baptist Church.  Interment will follow at the Brownwood Cemetery.

Jewel “Jill” L. Whitaker Hawn

Jewel “Jill” Hawn, 73 of Good Hope passed away Sunday, July 9, 2017 at her home. Born Sunday, February 20, 1944, in Decatur, she was a daughter of the late Frank B. Whitaker and Helen L. Wills Whitaker. Mrs. Hawn retired from Insurance Services Office as a fire and building inspector. In recent years she attended Gibbs Memorial Baptist Church in Bostwick. Jill as she was so affectionately known, had a great adoration for numerous fraternal organizations including; Order of The Eastern Star, serving as Past Matron of the Toccoa chapter #294 District 15 of Georgia, and Ladies of the Oriental Shrine, serving as Past High Priestess of Crescent Court # 106 Anderson, SC.

She is survived by her husband, Alvon Jerry Hawn; son, Alexander “Bucky” W. Henderson and wife, Sandi of Dacula; step-son, Peter “Skeeter” Hawn and wife, Jolene of Good Hope, brother, Frank B. Whitaker; sister, Helen Roberts; grandchildren Wayne, Jason, and Kyle Henderson; step-grandchildren, William Hawn and wife, Kayla, Joyclene Lord, Amber, Kathryn, and Emily Hawn; step-great grandson, Charles Hawn. In abiding by her wishes, she has been cremated.

A memorial service was conducted at 3 p.m. Sunday, July 16, at the Gibbs Memorial Baptist Church in Bostwick, with the Rev. Wilburn M. Hill. Burial followed at a later date in Roanoke, VA.
