Syringe, suspected meth found after stop

A 33–year–old Madison man was arrested and charged with various drug–related charges after he was stopped on Eatonton Road for a taillight violation.

According to Morgan County Sheriff’s Office reports, Anthony Paul Lewis was detained after officers stopped the 1991 GMC Jimmy he was driving on Eatonton Road near the intersection of Commerce Drive at 3:15 p.m.

Following the stop, reports state, Lewis told the deputy he did not have his driver’s license on his person. When the deputy asked if he could search the vehicle, reports state, Lewis allegedly replied that he “wished we wouldn’t,” the deputy wrote.

Deputies inventoried the vehicle consequent to the traffic arrest and allegedly found a used needle and syringe, a small yellow box containing two clear baggies with suspected crystal methamphetamine, two cotton swabs and a third clear plastic bag. Reports state that the substance field tested positive for methamphetamine.

In total, Lewis was charged with possession of methamphetamine, possession of drug related objects, taillight violation, windshield violation and failure to have license on person.
