8AAA Football Poll Gives Morgan the Edge

In a recent poll of newspaper sports editors from the communities within Region 8AAA the Morgan County Bulldogs were picked to repeat as region champions with the Hart County Bulldogs coming in a close second.  According to the poll those sportswriters tabbed Franklin County’s Lions and Jackson County’s Panthers was expected to battle it out for the final two playoff spots.

The pollsters included Shane Scoggins of The Citizen Leader in Franklin County, David Butler of The Hartwell Sun, Brett Fowler of The Walton Tribune, Ben Munroe of Main Street Newspapers which covers both East Jackson and Jackson County and Alvin Richardson of The Morgan County Citizen.

Each writer was asked to rank the teams in Region 8AAA from first to sixth place with first place votes worth six points, second place five points and so through the rankings.  The points were then tallied to come up with the final poll.

Morgan got five first place votes and Hart County received one.  The final rankings went like this:

1st – Morgan County – 29 points (5 first place)

2nd – Hart County – 22 points (1 first place)

3rd – Franklin County – 18 points

4th – Jackson County – 18 points

5th – Monroe Area – 12 points

6th – East Jackson – 

5 points
