The hit television series, The Originals, returned to Madison last week to film scenes for the fifth season of the show in Town Park. Last October, the cast and crew swept through town, transforming Town Park into a New Orleans style marketplace. They returned once more last Friday to recreate the same marketplace once again in Town Park. The production company, Bonanza Productions, worked with the City of Madison, as well as local business owners, to compensate them for any negative or disruptive impact the three-day project could create.
According to City Manager David Nunn, the film company, Bonanza Productions, originally chose Town Park last year because of its striking similarity to Jackson Square Park, a famous historic park located in the French Quarter of New Orleans, Louisiana. “They are trying to emulate that famous park,” said Nunn last year. “Apparently, our fountain and wrought-iron rails will be featured prominently.”
The Originals, which is a spin-off from The Vampire Diaries, stars Joseph Morgan, Daniel Gillies, and Claire Holt, who play the Mikaelson siblings, caught up in supernatural adventures and turmoil while charged with protecting their home city of New Orleans. The siblings vow to take down the evil Marcel, played by Charles Michael Davis, who overtook the city after the trio fled from their vengeful father. The Mikaelsson+ siblings face battles between vampires, werewolves, and witches throughout the series in their quest to protect their home and defeat Marcel. “It’s an exciting show,” said Nunn. “Hopefully, Madison’s appearance in the series will generate some interest.”
Season 5 will air on the CW sometime in 2018. Keep an eye out for our very own Town Park in the background!
