Dorothy Ann Jenkins Wallace

Dorothy Ann Jenkins Wallace of Madison passed away Saturday, September 23, 2017, at Kindred Hospice in Piedmont Athens General. Mrs. Wallace was born October 31, 1922. She is preceded in death by her parents Homer Curtis Jenkins and Nancy Harriett Hearon of Parrott, Georgia. Also preceding her in death, was her husband of sixty-two years, Ted R. Wallace, one sister, Nina Rebecca Jenkins, and five brothers, Woodrow William Jenkins, Homer Dolph Jenkins, Clifford Wellan Jenkins, Glenn Harold Jenkins, and Homer Curtis Jenkins, Jr.

Mrs. Wallace was bookkeeper and finance manager at Ted Wallace Used Cars 1949-1961, Ted Wallace Chevrolet-Olds, Inc., 1962-1994, and Wallace Motor Co., Inc. 1995-2012. She won numerous awards from General Motors, including the Silver Bowl Award for Excellence.

She was a member of the Madison First United Methodist Church and past Sunday school teacher, a member of the Morgan County UDC #573, and a member emeritus of the Eastern Star #335.

Mrs. Wallace is survived by three children, Ted R. Wallace, Jr (Billie), Stephen G. Wallace (June), Teresa Wallace; five grandchildren Brian Sewell (Jennifer), Traci Beall (Grey), Rabun Wallace, Mary Noe (Kevin), Emolyn Ricks (Josh); and three great-grandchildren, Alex Sewell, Andy Sewell, and Harrison Beall.

Services were held Monday, September 25, graveside, at the Rutledge City Cemetery. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Madison First United Methodist Church, PO Box 350, 30650.


Eugene Gilstrap

Evans Funeral Home announces the death of Master Sgt. (Retired) Eugene Gilstrap, age 76 of Madison, Georgia entered into rest Tuesday, September 19, 2017.  Mr. Gilstrap was born in Morgan County, Georgia a son of the late Ollie and Inez Gilstrap, was of the Baptist Faith and was a Retired Master Sergeant from the U.S. Air Force having served in Vietnam.  Mr. Gilstrap liked to collect Snapper Lawn Mowers and later owned a Small Engine Repair Shop.  In addition to his parents, Mr. Gilstrap is preceded by brothers Homer and Hershel Gilstrap and a sister, Louise Cooper.

Survivors include a brother, Charles Gilstrap of Cleveland, Georgia.  Nieces Sallie Smith and her husband Stan of Murrayville, and Lisa Phillips and her husband Todd of Flowery Branch.  Special friends Van and Rose Duncan, sister in law, Sue Gilstrap, several other nieces and nephews and family members.

Funeral services will be held 2:00 P.M. Wednesday, September 20, 2017 from the Chapel of Evans Funeral Home with burial to follow with full Military Honors in Evans Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends 12:00 – 2:00 P.M. prior to the service.

John Evan Fears Jr.

Mr. John Evan Fears Jr. 92, of Sandy Springs, GA died peacefully at his home on Sept 19, 2017.  He was born in Madison, GA; fought in World War II; and then attended the Univ. of GA.  His business career included Wagstaff Motors in Atlanta and General Motors in various capacities across the southeastern US.  Upon retiring from General Motors Mr. Fears attended Atlanta Law School (Juris Doctor) and Atlanta School of Biblical Studies (Master of Divinity).

Mr. Fears was preceded in death by his wife Daudre Carlin Fears and by his brother Harold Kendrick Fears.  He is survived by sons John Kendrick Fears and wife Joanna, and John Evan Fears III and wife Marianne, as well as granddaughter Joan Leslie Fears and grandson John Evan Fears IV, all of Atlanta.

The funeral service in Madison was held at the Pennington UMC, 1160 Broughton Rd, Newborn, GA 30056 on Sunday, September 24th.  A memorial service will be held in Atlanta at Westminster Presbyterian Church, 1438 Sheridan Road, Atlanta, GA 30324, on Sunday, October 1st at 3 PM.  In lieu of flowers, please visit a shut-in or make a donation to Pennington UMC.
