A 15-year-old Morgan County high school student was shot in the face Sunday night while sitting in a car on Micha Circle.

According to Sgt. Wes Thompson, Madison Police Department, Deshunden Robertson was shot once in the right cheek by some type of pistol. Thompson said Robertson was taken to Morgan Memorial Hospital initially for treatment and has since been transferred to Atlanta Medical Center where he remains. Robertson is enrolled at Morgan County Foothills Education Charter High School.

The incident occurred in the Madison Commons Apartment complex at approximately 9 p.m.

Thompson said the driver of a 2006 Ford Fusion, in which Robertson was a passenger, told officers he pulled up to a stop sign and then heard a shot. The driver said he did not see where the shot came from and he initially ducked down in the vehicle. “He didn’t know anything until he heard a gun shot.”

Thompson said, as of Tuesday, no arrest has been made in the shooting. “We are still following up on multiple leads,” Thompson said.

He also said officers have identified a suspect in the shooting. Thompson said the Madison Police Department contacted the Georgia Bureau of Investigation to assist in the investigation. “We are comfortable an arrest will be made,” he said.
