Mat Dogs Compete at Collins Hill

Sports Reports Sports

For the second weekend in a row Donovan McElligott led the Bulldog Wrestling squad with another first place finish in the 170 pound division.  Morgan went to war at the Collins Hill Defensive Soap Invitational and had a very strong showing, according to head coach Dusty Sidwell.  He said, “We were in competition with teams from all around the state from Lowndes County to several Gwinnett County schools.  Several of the schools were teams that were recent top four teams in the state, as well as recent state championship team from Archer High School.”

The meet did not keep team scores.  This may seem a little strange, but Sidwell set the record straight with these comments.  “Some teams are still missing some of their guys from football so what people have started to do is just call it like a “Scramble” tournament so the teams that don’t have ‘full line ups’ like us don’t get hurt later on with that criteria.”  It certainly makes sense to do that.  Many high school basketball teams get penalized due to their football teams going deep into the playoffs.  If your starting squad doesn’t join you until Christmas break, you shouldn’t be punished for it.

It didn’t matter in the long run as Morgan had a number of wrestlers who placed and medaled for the Varsity and JV teams.  Those players are listed below:

Donovan McElliott

2nd Place –

Peyton Walker
