This year’s Tour of Homes was a great success with over 2,400 visitors over the 3
days of the tour. Of course, the weather cooperated with only foggy and overcast
conditions, but all of our visitors had a wonderful time seeing the sites and shops
of Madison and Morgan County.
Our attendance was on track with previous years and included visitors from as far
away as Texas and California with a couple from Germany who bought tickets for
another tour but saw Madison instead. Visitors from Florida and the Carolinas
saw our ads and planned their excursion to see us. Our B & B’s and in-town Inn
were fully booked and many visitors from out of state also stayed in our
Interchange lodging.
We received positive comments about our town and the multiple, good
restaurant choices in the downtown area. One visitor stated that Honeymoon was
the number one attraction but Ed and Molly’s house in Rutledge was a close
second. Visitors were also very complimentary about the friendliness of the
homeowners, docents and our shopkeepers.
The Tour of Homes is an excellent opportunity for Madison to showcase our many
assets and the spirit of the tour embodies all the positive aspects of living in a
small town where everyone is a neighbor.
We had over 100 volunteers working to support the 10 homeowners who were
gracious enough to open their homes to our visitors. Without their willingness to
open their homes and to work together with the Chamber Board and all our
volunteers, the tour would not be possible. I also want to thank our other
supporters, the Cultural Center, the Historical Society, Landmarks and our
Churches who also opened their doors for our tour goers. A big thanks also goes
out to the City and the Police Department for their continued support. For that, I
want to personally thank all of you and to wish everyone the best during the
Holiday Season.
