Staff Written Obituaries

Michael Jon Clevenger (Mike) was born May 17, 1976 at MacDill AFB, in Tampa, Florida. He died November 5, 2017 in Newport News, Virginia at Riverside Hospital. At 41 years old, Michael was struck by a vehicle on October 21, 2017, while driving a 2004 Harley Davidson during work.  He was working as Finance Manager for Bowditch Ford, Newport News, Virginia.

He is survived by two daughters: Sophia Anne, age 12, and Aubree Grace Clevenger, age 6; mother and stepfather: Bryan and Lovie McGiboney of Madison; grandmother Betty M. Bailey of Madison; great uncle Robert Allen Davis of Clover, SC; Uncle Lon E. Davis of Madison; Aunt Cindy Shelton, of Newnan; Cousins: Elizabeth N. Allen of Stockbridge, and Rebecca Davis of Monroe; Father: James Richard Clevenger, last known residence, Wichita, Kansas. Michael was a Native American of the Choctaw Tribe, in Chockaw, Oklahoma.

Michael was a Veteran of the United States Navy and served in the foreign war of Kosovo. He served on the USS Enterprise, USS Kennedy, and USS Roosevelt Aircraft Carriers.  He always said as a boy: he wanted to serve in the Navy like his grandfathers and great grandfather.  He graduated from Military School, Georgia Youth Challenge Program, at Fort Stewart, Class of 1995. Michael became a Christian at age 17, and was baptized at Westside Baptist Church, in Snellville.

He loved cars, airplanes, and helicopters and in his lifetime he worked on, or with, all three. He lived his life totally fearless, and loved his family and friends with all of his heart.  He had the heart of a Lion and would give his last dollar, if he knew someone else needed it.

His greatest joy, and endeavor in life, was to be the best Daddy he could, to his little girls Sophie and Aubree.  God Rest his sweet soul.  Memorial Service to be held on Dec. 9, 2017, 11 a.m., at Brownwood Baptist Church, Madison, GA.
