Tuesday morning, December 5, 2017 Lucy P. Roland departed her life at Bon Secours St. Francis Medical Center in Richmond, Virginia. Mrs. Roland was born February 20, 1942 to Edward and Lena Mae Jordan in Morgan County. She was employed by Shandig Corporation and Sieman, Inc. (Watertown) both in Madison and Rutledge Sportswear Sewing Plant, Rutledge.
She was preceded in death by her late husbands, Clarence Pettigrew II and Mike Roland, her youngest son Mark Pettigrew; parents Edward and Lena Mae Jordan; three brothers and a sister.
She leaves to cherish her memories her four children, Larry Jordan and Patricia Garrett both of Chesterfield, Virginia, Clarence Pettigrew III (Cassandra), Cleveland, Ohio and Samia Pettigrew of Madison; 13 grandchildren, eight great grandchildren and Muffin her pet-grand; three sisters Catherine Williams, Edith Wright and Marjorie Thomas, all of Madison; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and close friends.
Lucy was a member of Springfield Baptist Church and later joined Barrow Grove Baptist Church. She was a member of the Order of Eastern Star Lodge, Amaranth Chapter # 15.
She cooked and served food as her own outreach ministry every Thanksgiving and Christmas or whenever she was afforded the time. She was known for her famous canned preserve and cha-cha.
Her funeral service was held at 12 noon Saturday, Dec. 9 at Springfield Baptist Church. Pastor William Gaither was the eulogist and Rev. Kenneth Jones officiated. Interment was in Springfield Society Cemetery.
Watts Funeral Home in Union Point was in charge of arrangements.
