In JV action this week it was Milfred Franklin’s boys getting a close win over Franklin County 46-41. The Dogs were having their way for three quarters when the Lions mounted a furious late, fourth-quarter comeback. Franklin hit six final period three-pointers, but the free throw shooting of the Dogs and particularly, Desmond White, fought back the last-ditch effort to get the win on the road. White was 10-11 from the line and was the leading scorer with 19.
Saturday the Dogs played Nathaniel Greene Academy, a Greene County private school, in Siloam. The Dogs pulled out a 50-49 win on the second-half heroics of Tee Nelson. The point guard poured in 19 points in the second half to save the day while Trent Folds added 14 to the total.
The girls had only one contest this week against Franklin County coming away with another close victory 22-20. The report from Coach Candi Wyatt was this, “We had a slow start on Friday at Franklin County. Maybe it was due to a long ride and then rushing off the bus to tip-off causing us to play six minute quarters. We ended the first quarter down 9-3. Early in the second quarter, we found ourselves down 14-4, but our girls played tough on defense which caused a few turnovers. Miracle Hunter and Victoria Chapman capitalized on them offensively by scoring eight unanswered points before going into the half only down by two. Neshay Cobb and Tamia Benford came out in the third quarter and gave us another great offensive spark. We held on to the lead to win the game 22-20. I am super proud of the progress I see in each of our girls each week. They are listening and working hard to find a way to win. Miracle led all scorers with 8, Victoria had 5, Neshay had 4, Tamia 3 and Addrianna Lawrence scored 2.”
Next up for boys, girls, and JV teams is a road game at East Jackson Friday, Jan. 26 starting at 4:30.
