In tennis action this week, both teams had three matches with Madison County in their first home match, Oconee County on the road, and East Jackson in a first of several Region 8-AAA matches.
Although they fell to the Red Raiders and Warriors, the girls got a sweep over East Jackson for their first Region win. Coach Stacy Dearing was upbeat about her teams saying, “We had a great week in tennis last week.”
In a match that was partially covered in last week’s issue, the boys fell to Madison County Monday 1-4.
The lone winner for the Dogs was John Cardwell at number three singles 7-6, 6-2.
The girls lost a tough one 2-3 with wins at numbers one and two singles. Avery Kirby won handily 6-2, 6-1 as did Madison Gasque 6-1, 6-2. Dearing noted, “We had a very competitive match with Madison County. Both the boys and girls played hard, but were upset in our first home match.”
On February 15, it was on to Oconee to play an always tough Warriors team.
Things did not go well for Morgan as they were defeated 0-5 on the boys’ side and 1-4 on the girls’. Gasque did come away with a 7-6, 6-1 win in her match at number two singles.
