James Carter “Bud” Malcom, age 90, of Madison, GA, died Sunday, March 11, 2018. Born on November 27, 1927 in the Little Black house in Greshamville, he was the son of the late Jim Malcom and Mary Maude Greer Malcom. He attended school in Buckhead and joined the Merchant Marines where he met Betty Smith in Detroit, Michigan. James worked in auto plants, married Betty and had 2 daughters in Michigan before moving home to Madison where they had three more daughters. When he came back he worked with Hunt & Company in Madison before starting his own business, Malcom Office Supply and Printing. After 1983 he had chicken houses until he retired. He always had a garden and gave fresh vegetables to everybody. He was a member of the Gideons and helped to build Lake Oconee Church where he is a member, but also attended several other churches. He loved and cared for his girls and even more his grandchildren. He loved his family even if they didn’t always agree and his dog Abel who was his faithful companion.
James is survived by his five daughters, Brenda Smith of Madison, GA, Cindy Smith and husband Steve of Madison, GA, Barby Riffle and husband Dick of Admore, TN, Vicky Vanwhy of Madison, GA and Rhonda Bumgarner and husband Tommy of Madison, GA; sixteen grandchildren; 25 great grandchildren; two sisters, Lois Brown of Doraville, GA and Dottie Barrett of Madison, GA; a number of other relatives and many friends; and his beloved dog, Abel. He was preceded in death by his siblings, Betty Edwards and Pete Malcom; and a grandchild, James Vanwhy.
Funeral Services will be held Tuesday, March 13, 2018 at 2:00 p.m. at Sugar Creek Chapel, 1051 Meadow Lane, Madison, GA 30650 with Rev. Mike Pritchett officiating. Interment will follow at Sugar Creek Baptist Church Cemetery, 1000 Sugar Creek Church Road, Madison, GA 30650. Serving as pallbearers are Jamie Sears, Brian Mitchell, Justin Vanwhy, Lance Smith, Jed Smith and Shane Bumgarner. Honorary pallbearer will be Wesley Smith. The family will receive friends from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. prior to the service at Sugar Creek Chapel. McCommons Funeral Home, 109 W.
