Back Porch expansion, new Marco’s owners

Dianne Yost Biz Buzz

Big news! The Board & Brush, located at 119 West Jefferson St., in downtown Madison, is expanding y’all! Ok so here’s the net-net: Owners Julie and Don Parsons are in the process of combining a new retail destination called The Back Porch with its existing Board & Brush, DIY wood sign art space! Julie has moved (or should I say directed Don to move) the Board and Brush workshop area to a large space in the back and is using the front space as The Back Porch retail space! Right so Biz Buzz popped in there unannounced last week to check it out and y’all are gonna FLIP!

It’s gonna rock y’all! I’m talkin’ a sophisticated, totally cool retail shop that’s unlike anything we have in Madison! Julie is going to offer high-end art by a Georgia artist, amazing Canoe Bags and jewelry, Farm House Fresh Body products that until recently were only used offered through the Ritz, home accessories like some killer lamps and light fixtures, furniture, cool baskets, and more!  The Back Porch is even gonna sell fresh cut flowers! Julie says she wants to offer “something for visitors to take home with them that reflects Madison.”

Julie even commissioned a series of Madison-branded candles each with its own unique scent! I flat love it! Ok so the candles are Madison Historic District with mesquite and oak moss; Madison Backroads with tobacco and vanilla; Antebellum Trail with musky amber and rose; Madison with lavender and bergamot, Madison In May with sweet pea, jasmine and apple; Sherman’s Girl with white amber and lily of the valley; Madison Cotton Fields with blooming cotton; and Momma’s fave 1809 with lemongrass and basil! The best part is that Julie and Don’s daughter Izzie came up with the candle names! Y’all are gonna love it! Julie and Don hope to open the new expanded space in April! Keep watching the Buzz for more details!

Marco’s Pizza, located at 1694 Eatonton Road in Madison, has new owners and they are Rockin’ it! Yes! The husband and wife team of Jim Hickey and Christine Murrell bought the business last May and have been busy training and revamping the entire operation! I popped in to see Christine the other day to check it all out!  Honey they are in the process of installing new fixtures and they are fixin’ to put in new wall treatments, new booths to replace the tables and are adding table cloths. The place is already lookin’ incredible! Plus they have greatly improved service and quality and are promoting Marco’s attractive price points and its popular loyalty customer coupon program that you can participate in by joining the program at www.marcos.com or inside the store! Also, Marco’s will deliver downtown and will waive its $3 delivery fee! Oh and since Christine and Jim both hale from a public safety background, they proudly “Back the Blue” and offer all law enforcement a 50 percent discount! DING DANG DEAL ALERT!  The best part is that Christine and Jim are givin’ back! Each week they pick a local business and bring them lunch! Now that’s what I call a delicious treat! Right so y’all head over to see them immediately!

Forget ‘bout Route 66, cause honey you can Get your Kicks if you’re a Size Six over at the famous and fabulous Barkin’ Dogs Shoe Co., located at 172 South Main Street in downtown Madison! That’s right y’all! Owner Vickie Hunt called the other day to tell me she is flat loaded with size six shoes in all of her fab brands. And, honey I flat outta know ‘cause I’ve bought a ton of new kicks ‘cause I flat can’t resist high fashion! Now y’all get over there immediately – especially you, size six! Take advantage of the world’s most renowned shoe brands and one of Madison’s most fun shops EVER! Love it!

Ok that’s the buzz on biz. But, don’t cry … now sing it with me y’all … ‘Cause you’re all invited back next week to this locality to have a heapin’ helpin’ of Citizen hospitality. Biz Buzz that is. Set a while. Take your shoes off. Y’all come back now. Ya’ hear?
