Once again, Madison has grown in the hearts of people who visit it, blossoming as the city that has been awarded the title of Best Small Town in Georgia 2018 by Southern Living.

Southern Living boasts the qualities of the best towns in each state that have “preserved and reimagined” their past “with historic downtowns that now beckon visitors to art galleries, bookstores, and farm-to-table restaurants. They have genuine character and charm. Perhaps most of all, they have a sense of community and local pride that’s palpable.”

It’s no wonder when viewing the common qualities in Southern Living’s selection that Madison is included. Madison’s history, architecture, and landscaping are all features proclaimed noteworthy.

Exactly how were the towns chosen? The readers of the magazine were surveyed on towns they have visited.

Madison-Morgan Convention & Visitors Bureau’s Tourism Project Coordinator Jamison Hooks shared, “There are several charming small towns across the state, but Madison really stands out for a few reasons. We have always been ahead of the curve with historic preservation, which has allowed us to maintain that authentic, small town feel. This, combined with our vibrant downtown and the fact that Madison is home to one of the state’s largest collections of antebellum homes and buildings, makes us one of a kind.”

This is the third year in a row that Madison has been recognized by Southern Living for various accolades, including being on the South’s Best Small Towns list in both 2016 and 2017.

Jamison stated, “The CVB is thrilled about this recognition from such an influential and trusted magazine. Earned media is without a doubt the most valuable exposure a destination could ask for, and Southern Living has consistently recognized Madison for it’s uniqueness and authentic charm.”
