Anne Elizabeth Berry Lesnikowski born October 3,1921, died peacefully at her home on Martha’s Vineyard on March 14, 2018. She was 96 years old. For the past 23 years Mrs Lesnikowski spent part of every winter with her daughter Molly and family, at Molly’s home in Rutledge.
Anne served her country during World War II as a WASP, ferrying planes around the US to be taken over seas as needed for battle.She gained a degree in journalism from Murray State College in Kentucky, where the Berrys had lived for 150 or so years. She worked for UN World News in New York City. It was there that she met her future husband, Bronislaw Lesnikowski. Together they moved in 1950 to the Island of Martha ‘s Vineyard. Anne continued her writing as a columnist for the Vineyard Gazette. Anne received a master’s degree in Library science from Simmons College in Boston, Mass. and became Librarian for the MV Regional High School and the Town of Tisbury .
Anne was proceeded in death by a daughter Sarah, her beloved husband Broni and brother Frank. She is survived by her daughters Alicia and Molly and a son Nicholas, three grandchildren Teddy Hogan, Andrew and Daniel Lesnikowski and three sisters, Bobbye Tucker (94) Virginia Heddens (90) and Patricia Herring (88) as well as many nieces nephews and their family members. There will be a celebration of her life Sat. April 14 at 5 p.m. at Ed and Molly’s house for anyone wishing to attend.
