Black History Parade April 21

The annual NAACP Black History Parade and festivities will be held at Town Park on Saturday, April 21st The parade will begin at 1 p.m. and the events at Madison’s Town Park will last from noon to 5 p.m.. The NAACP is celebrating 109 years.

The Morgan County Branch of the NAACP iscelebrating 49 years. Our theme this year is “African Americans in Children Literature.” The NAACP wants Morgan County to get creative this year. We want to see floats, decorations, etc. in accordance with the theme to represent authors, African American children characters, etc.

Everyone complete your parade application to show off your fancy cars, horses, floats, golf carts, motorcycles, etc. This year’s parade will be the BEST that Morgan County has ever seen!

This year’s parade grand marshal is our very own, Mayor Fred Perriman. Our parade honorary grand marshal is Pastor Dr. Hoke L. Smith.

Parade line up will start at 11 a.m. at the Morgan County High School parking lot located at 1231 College Ave. The parade will leave the parking lot promptly at 1 p.m.

Parade route: Parade will proceed down College Ave and turn left on N. Main St. and then turn right on W. Jefferson St towards Town Park and then turn right on Second St at Whigby Jewelers where the parade will circle back around to the high school parking lot.

The festival and concert will begin immediately after the parade. The MC for our festival will be Mr. Larry Tinsley from V-103 radio station. We welcome him once again. Some of our concert participants will be the Madisonaires, Madison; The Church Boyz; Walt Beasley and The Gospel Explosion; Recording Artist, Enin Perryman; Fernandez “Bear” Hunter; Jeremiah Johnson of the Christ Mime Ministry; Booker T. Washington

High School Drumline, and many more local and visiting groups/artists. Bring your lawn chairs, blankets, get some good food from our vendors and enjoy the gospel concert in the park.

Along with the concert in the park, we will have a variety of displays and informational tables:

All parade, festival, and booth/vendor applications are due on Saturday, April 7 th .
