Fashion to be emphasis of Artists Guild fundraiser

The Madison Artists Guild (MAG) is putting on a fashion show fundraiser at the end of the month. This show will be Madison’s very own version of Project Runway.

According Karen Strelecki, with MAG, the show will feature the trendiest spring looks from local retailers modeled by a variety of models for the crowd. Models will strut down the runway while also donning the unique fashion creations from members of the Madison-Morgan Boys and Girls Club and Chicken Tracts Art Academy. Local retailers participating in the MAG’s Project Runway include Amelia’s Apparel, Barkin’ Dogs Shoe Co., Cabi, Maggie Lane, On Cloud 9, and Teal Couture.

The event will take place on Friday, April 27 at 5 p.m. at Madison Variety Works.

“Madison Variety Works will be transformed into a glorious gardened-themed fashion house, complete with a runway,” said Strelecki. “A hand-painted folk art dress from Peter Loose will be offered for auction and a beautiful pair of diamond earrings worth $799 and donated by Whidby Jewelers will be raffled off.”

All proceeds will benefit the Madison Artists Guild art programs for kids and adults. This year’s fundraiser will also help MAG continue to aid the community’s aspiring artists.

“The Madison Artists Guild has always put a lot of emphasis on the importance of children and adults having art in their lives,” said Strelecki. “In support of that precept, MAG gives a $500 scholarship to a graduating senior at Morgan County High School who will pursue an art track in college.” This year’s recipient was Claudia Sims.

Hors d’oeuvres during the April 27 event will be provided by The Caboose and libations by Mint Juleps Kitchen. MAGallery designers include: Margaret Agner, Amy Pieroni, Margaret Warfield and Jackie Kelly. The event is being sponsored by Morgan County Citizen, SellEthics, The Brady Inn, Bank of Madison, Whidby Jewelers, Zapien’s Salon, The Caboose, Mint Juleps Kitchen, Madison Studios, Town & Country, Madison Flea Market, and Unique Treasures.

To order tickets, $40 each, visit: or buy them in person at the MAGallery located at 123 South Main Street. For more information call: (706) 342-9360.
