A Morgan County Grand Jury, last Thursday indicted murder suspect Jason Sandiver Slaughter, 23, on murder and aggravated assault charges in relation to the shooting death of his mother Paula Slaughter, 54, and family friend Collin Smith, 53.

The Grand Jury returned true bills for two counts of murder, two counts of felony murder and two counts of aggravated assault against Slaughter.

Slaughter was arrested on Monday, Dec. 4, after two family members found Smith dead on the driveway of the Slaughter home on Slaughter-Veasley Road. Paula Slaughter’s body was found on the front steps of the residence after officers had secured the property.

Jason Slaughter was apprehended approximately two hours later after a Georgia State Patrol helicopter with thermo-imaging capability found Slaughter in the woods behind the house. SWAT members subdued Slaughter with a flash-bang device and placed him under arrest.

Allegations are that Slaughter killed both Smith and his mother after shooting both multiple times with a .20 gauge shotgun. According to reports, the weapon was located at the scene.

Slaughter was unarmed when members of the Walton County SWAT team arrested him in the woods at approximately 7:30 p.m. that evening.

Court records state that Slaughter has secured Milledgeville-based attorney John Bradley for his defense. Slaughter remains incarcerated at the Morgan County Detention Center.
