The Annual Back to School Rally and Health Fair is this weekend, on Saturday, July 21 on the front lawn of Morgan Memorial Hospital from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m.
Families are invited to attend the popular annual event, where they can receive free school supplies, health screenings, while enjoying a morning of family-friend fun.
In preparation for the event, The Morgan County Family Connection has been collecting backpacks to fill with notebooks, pencils, and other supplies to distribute during the rally.
“Our goal is that every student that comes to the rally will receive a backpack,” said Velde Hardy, a coordinator at Family Connection. “We want students to be healthy and have the supplies they need.”
“We’ve been doing this close to 15 years,” Hardy said of the rally. “Each year continues to grow and demonstrate the need.”
According to Hardy, between 400 and 500 students attend the back to school rally each year. Family Connection began the event in 2002, and as attendance grew, it partnered with Morgan Memorial Hospital in 2008.
But it is not just about providing supplies for students, said Hardy. “It’s about educating families and parents about what resources are available.”
The Madison Police Department, Morgan County Sheriff’s Office, Morgan County Fire Rescue and local church groups will be there to support families.
“It’s also a rally so the marching band and cheerleaders will be there,” Hardy said. “And it’s open to everyone. Anyone can come.”
The rally will be hosted on Saturday, July 21, from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. on the front lawn of the Morgan Memorial Hospital.
