Donna Healy Martin passed away Saturday, July 21, 2018 with her family by her side. Donna was born in Des Moines, Iowa on December 30, 1944. She spent her early life living in Coral Gables, Florida. She attended Stetson University in Florida and University of Madrid in Madrid, Spain. After returning to the States she earned her Master’s Degree in Education from the University of Georgia and her Specialist Degree from Georgia State University.
She worked for the Morgan County Board of Education 42 years, touching so many lives along the way. After retirement, she spent most of her time mastering her skills on the tennis court, where she helped her 55 and older team advance to National Championships in Phoenix, Arizona. She was so proud of her team! She loved traveling with friends and family and would always be planning the next adventure. She was also very active with her church family at First United Methodist Church where she loved teaching her Sunday school lessons.
Community involvement was important to Donna such as visiting the nursing home, singing to the residents and painting their fingernails. Family and her garden were everything to her and she was so proud of them all!
She is survived by Jim Martin and their three children, Michael Martin and his wife Stephanie Martin of Madison, Ellen Sims and her husband Patrick Sims of Madison, and Holly Garcia and her husband Keith Garcia of Watkinsville, her five grandchildren, Brendan and Bennett Ianelli, Reese Garcia, Anna Kline Martin and Cooper Martin.
She lived every day as it may be her last. It was a life well lived, cut short way too soon. Her smile will be so missed by friends and family.
A memorial service was held at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday, July 25 in the First United Methodist Church of Madison.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to First United Methodist Church preschool education.
