This week the Morgan County High School volleyball squad will enter into their first matches of the season.  Tuesday they open up with Madison County and Habersham Central on the road and finish up the week with their first home event of the season hosting Lake Oconee Academy and Gatewood.

First year Head Coach Olivia Daniel told the Morgan County Citizen that her team is young.  She said, “I’m excited about the upcoming season.  We are a very young team with only two seniors and mostly ninth and tenth graders on the roster.  However, these players have more experience than their years.  Seniors Bailey Shultz and Nijah  Young will be our leaders, but our younger players will also provide some leadership as well.”

The staff will include veterans Carrie McClain with the JV while Alan Shultz and Angela Stapleton will lead the Middle School team.  Daniel commented, “I’ve got the best JV coach I could ask for in Coach McClain.  She is phenomenal.  Of course, our Middle School staff will stay intact and they do a fantastic job of preparing the players for the next level.”

When asked about this year’s prospects in the Area she said, “Since I’m not from the area, I really don’t know the  teams that well.  That could be a good thing.  I’m treating every game as a big game.  All I know is that we have the talent, but we’ve got to work hard to compete.”

The first year math teacher at Morgan County Middle School and volleyball coach also gave a shout-out to her husband.  “I have a great husband at home who is a big sports fan.  He’s incredible and very supportive in my pursuit of coaching.”
