The past week for Morgan’s softball team has seen some great success. But at what price? The Lady Dogs took three wins during the week with big Region 8AAA victories over Monroe Area 10-0 and Hart County 10-2. They also got a win at Pierce County over the weekend at their tournament.
With the three wins, MOCO moves to 2-1 in Region play and 4-4 overall. They are now in sole possession of third place behind Jackson County (3-0) and Jefferson (2-0) in Region play.
Against Monroe Bailey Nix threw a two-hit shutout on the road against her former team and Madison Henry went deep twice in the game for the first 10-0 win. They then took on Hart at home coming up with another 10-2 victory.
So, what was the price they paid? Well, All-State shortstop Alissa Webb was diagnosed this week with a broken wrist on her glove hand that will likely keep her out of the lineup for the next two to three weeks, according to her. Next came another big blow to All-State catcher Madison Henry. She likely has a torn ACL. The prognosis is uncertain at this time, but it doesn’t look promising. OK, what else can happen? Starting leftfielder, Hannah Callaway, likely has a dislocated throwing shoulder, according to head coach Jason McBay. He said, “I’ve never seen anything quite like this. Our top three players from last year and top three hitters in the order are out.” In this old coaches’ life I’ve never seen anything like it either. Momma said there’d be days like this.
If you know this coaching staff and the players on this team, they aren’t about to throw in the towel, and hopefully all three will recover and participate toward the end of the season to put the team back to full strength. Best of luck in your recovery girls. We wish you and the Lady Dogs the best.
