In what was a predictable outcome, the Morgan County Bulldogs quickly dispatched an East Jackson squad that came into the night with just a single win on the season.  On Senior Night Morgan scored touchdowns on their first five possessions of the opening half and added a field goal on their sixth possession to build a 38-0 lead by intermission on their way to a 45-0 win.  Meanwhile the Bulldog defensive unit produced five consecutive three-and-outs over the first two quarters and the first unit did not allow a first down.  East Jackson recorded their initial first down with under three minutes left in the second quarter against the Bulldogs second unit and by that time the game was completely out of hand.

Offensively Morgan totaled 416 yards led by Trenton Folds who completed seven of nine passes for 140 yards and three touchdowns, by Justin Hubbard who led the rushing attack with 57 yards on six carries and a touchdown, and by Jordan Huff who snagged four passes for 94 yards and two scores.

On defense the Bulldogs allowed just 83 total yards on the night and the leading tackler was Jitavious Peters with three tackles and a tackle for loss.  Seth Robertson had an interception and D.J. Jones, Key Malone and David Williams also had solid performances.  Jones had a tackle, an assist and a tackle for loss while Malone finished with two tackles, one assist and a tackle for loss.  Williams wound up the night with two tackles and two assists.

The win sets up a key game next Friday night in Region 8AAA between Morgan County and Hart County.  Hart County defeated Franklin County 14-10 this past week to keep pace with Morgan.  The winner of next week’s Morgan / Hart contest will get the region’s third seed and the loser will fall to fourth.  That contest is slated to be played in Hartwell.

On a cool Thursday night (played then because of a shortage of officials) that saw some spattering of rain the Bulldogs took command early.  On their first possession they quickly moved 68 yards for the game’s first touchdown.  Trent Folds passed to Denver Laughlin for 33 yards on the biggest play of the march and Kobridgette Lumpkin swept left for the final 15 yards.  Senior kicker Finn Williams, who scored nine points on the night on six extra points and a field goal, was true on the PAT and it was 7-0 with 8:00 left in the opening quarter.

East Jackson gained three yards in three plays and suffered a short punt.  Morgan took over on the Eagle’s 34 and three plays later were in the end zone. Keirreon Farley provided 17 yards when he went wide and Trent Folds hit Denver Laughlin for five yards and a score on the next snap to make it 14-0 at the 6:59 mark of the first quarter.

The Eagles took to the air and threw deep on their next possession but Seth Robertson was right there and picked it off at the Morgan County 30.  This drive took a little longer but the result was the same.  Ten plays later Richard Hubbard strolled in from seven yards out for the touchdown to make it 21-0 with time still left in the opening frame.  That drive was keyed by two nice runs from Hubbard that covered 16 and 24 yards and by a twelve yard scramble from quarterback Trent Folds to convert a third down.

Once again Morgan kicked off, the Bulldog defense produced another three-and-out and East Jackson punted to the Morgan County 30 yard line.  On the first play Kobridgette Lumpkin broke through and flew 70 yards but a penalty negated the touchdown.  On the next play Keirreon Farley went wide and darted 31 yards to the East Jackson 24.  On the ensuing snap Folds hit Jordan Huff over the middle and Huff went in untouched.  Williams made it 28-0 with the PAT at the 11:09 mark of the second quarter.

The Eagles managed just two yards on their next offensive series and punted once more.  This time Morgan took over in East Jackson territory at the 46 and went back to work.  They scored quickly again despite two holding penalties and the touchdown came when Folds found Jordan Huff on a deep route.  That throw and catch was good for 59 yards and Morgan’s fifth score in as many possessions.  With 8:03 left until intermission the Bulldogs led 35-0.

Morgan County added a 27 yard field goal off the foot of Finn Williams with a little over three minutes left in the half.  Those points came after the Bulldogs drove 46 yards in seven plays to the East Jackson 10 yard line. Senior Tim Hawkins was the major force on that march carrying five times for 19 yards.

With the score 38-0 at intermission, the game was played with a running clock in the second half and Coach Bill Malone and his staff were able to get their younger troops some major playing time.  The Bulldog defensive unit continued to shine and did not allow a score.  On the offensive side freshman Rogers Clark added a 40 yard touchdown on a jet sweep with 5:19 left in the game to make it 45-0.

The Bulldogs travel to Hart County next Friday night to take on the Orange and Black Bulldogs at Pete Herndon Stadium.  Game time is 7:30.
