Downtown Madison’s restaurant and retail destinations were in their full Holiday glory Saturday during Madison Main Street’s first Shop, Sip & Stroll promotion that attracted scores of shoppers from the local community and from surrounding cities like Athens, Atlanta, Covington and the Lake Oconee area.

Shoppers got their first taste of the Holidays and experienced a true, small town Holiday outing in a charming setting outside of the ubiquitous big-box experience.

Local shops were decorated to the hilt with Christmas lights, trees, wreaths, greenery and holiday decorations alongside refreshments and promotions. Live musicians performed on the square and holiday music was played on the sound system in Town Park.

“Downtown was popping! Our retail shops and restaurants made Shop, Sip & Stroll a great success. Downtown Madison was full of shoppers from far and wide and our local community demonstrated their commitment to shop local,” said Madison Main Street Director Ann Huff, who welcomed shoppers at Main Street tent next to the Welcome Center during the event.

Nearly every shop and restaurant in the downtown district participated by hosting a Holiday Open House with refreshments or by offering special discounts or giveaways during the day.

“This was one of the best promotions we have ever hosted,” said Madison Markets owner Jane Royal, whose business hosted a beautiful Open House event with delicious refreshments and a special holiday punch served from a silver punch bowl.

The event was promoted via local and regional newspapers, Madison Main Street’s social media platforms as well as the combined social media platforms of downtown Madison’s retail shops, restaurants, businesses and community members.

The event originated from Madison Main Street’s Promotions Committee consisting of local retail owners and representatives. Members of the creative team and committee consist of: Ann Huff of Madison Main Street, Kim Jensen of Amelia’s, Jane Royal of Madison Market’s, Ellen Sims of the Madison-Morgan Convention & Visitor’s Bureau, Julie Speyer of Pure Bliss, Kiki Pollard of the Madison Artists Guild and Ben Whidby of Whidby Jewelers. (Editor’s Note: Dianne Yost of the Morgan County Citizen also participates on the promotions committee).

Next week, Madison Main Street is supporting the national Shop Small Saturday event in downtown Madison with a Spend $24 on the 24th Campaign. People who spend $24 or more on Saturday will be entered to win one of two prizes of $100 in Downtown Dollars.
