One this is for sure. Morgan County’s Lady Softball team is going to miss Alissa Webb. The four-year starter has been a rock for Morgan over that span. Recently, the senior got another honor by being selected to and playing in the Georgia Softball North-South All-Star Game.
She said, “I was blessed to get the opportunity and to get to wear my high school jerseys one last time. It was an honor to represent Morgan County and I had so much fun getting to play with Georgia’s top players in the class of 2019.”
Webb plans on attending the University of North Georgia where she has already committed. “I plan to sign with the University of North Georgia sometime in the next few months. I chose this school not only for their amazing softball program, but for the loyalty they’ve shown to me. I got offered my freshman year and have been followed by them ever since. I can’t wait to see what the next four years hold. If they’re anything like my last four at Morgan County I will be extremely lucky!”
According to The University of North Georgia Lady Nighthawks website, they compiled a 62-4 record in 2018, advanced to the NCAA Division II Softball Championship, and was ranked in the Top Five Division II programs in the country a year ago. They were ranked number One for much of the season. The team won the Peach Belt Conference regular season and was also Tournament Champions. It was the winningest season in North Georgia history and led to a NCAA Division II Southeast Regional Championship as well. Coach Mike Davenport was named Coach-of-the-Year and the team also sported the National Player-of-the-year.
To be offered a scholarship to play for this team at this level is quite an accomplishment for Webb. She said, “I just wanted to say thank you to everyone in the community who has supported me the past four years of my softball career. I love this town and my school! Forever a Bulldog!”
