Tuesday’s game at Jackson County High School wasn’t pretty.  For the Panthers, that is.  The Morgan County Bulldogs put up 83 points against an outgunned and overmatched Region 8-AAA foe to push their record to 7-1 on the season and 4-0 in league play.  Alec Woodard had a game-high 28 points on 11-15 shooting going 5-7 from three-point land.  He also grabbed six rebounds, had three assists, and picked off six steals in the 50-point victory.

After two somewhat lackluster performances last week at home, the Bulldogs came out in this one with a renewed energy on both ends of the floor.  The defensive pressure was stifling and the offensive tempo was more like the coaching staff has been looking for from the tip.  Morgan’s man-to-man run-and-jump defense along with their various zone press looks were as good as we’ve seen from the 2018-19 Bulldogs.  The pressure was too much for the hapless Panthers as the game snowballed into a blowout in the first quarter.

Morgan’s Woodard was red hot in the first quarter scoring nine of his 28 points in various ways.  The quarter ended 23-8 and the thrashing was on.  The Dogs did a nice job of sharing the ball throughout the evening and getting open looks in their offensive sets.  It was 42-12 at the half in what was possibly the best 16 minutes MOCO has put together this season.

Stevin Greene got 14 along with five boards and six assists, AJ Brown added 13 on three-for-six shooting behind the arc and five-of-nine from the field.  Ty Lawrence added nine points and had a team-high eight assists.  Sophomore point guard Desmond White had one of his best games of the season with seven points on 3-of-5 shooting and five rebounds.  Nolan Causwell scored four as did freshman post Malachi Hardy, while Jordan Huff and Armand Wright each had two points.

The Dogs participated in the Palmetto Winter Classic this past weekend in Columbia, South Carolina and will next host the 18th annual Sweet South Classic the 27-29 at Morgan County.  Details of both tournaments will be found in our next issue.
