Water Dogs honor seniors at final home meet

Morgan County’s swim team hosted a four-team meet this past week and honored their seniors at the event.  The swimmers competed to a packed house at the Morgan County Aquatic Center in their final home meet of the 2018-19 season.  

Seniors who were honored included:

Grace Williams-Plans to attend Valdosta State to study dental hygiene. Swam for two years.

Bailey Shultz-Will attend North Greenville on a volleyball scholarship and plans on majoring in biology.  She has been on the swim team for two years.

John Degonia-Will be attending Georgia Tech to study chemistry.  He was a member of the State Relay team and has been on the swim team for four years.

John Cardwell-Has decided to attend the University of Georgia to study personal finance.  He was also a member of the State Relay team and has been swimming for Morgan County for four years.

Jade Spell-She will also be attending the University of Georgia.  The pre-dental student has been a member of the swim dogs for four years.

Caroline Schlabach-she plans on attending the University of Georgia to study sports journalism.  Caroline has been on the swim team for two years.

Calla Pederson will attend a University of her choosing and plans to study science.  She has been a member of the swim dogs for two years.

David Otalora-Garcia will be attending St. Petersburg to major in business.  He has been a MOCO swimmer for four years.  

Arie Hartman plans to travel the world upon graduation.  She has been on the swim team for four years.

Highlights for the Dogs included the following first-place finishers.

John Degonia 200 yard Individual Medley-2:22.97

Simon Leclair 100 yard freestyle 1:01.48

John Cardwell 50 yard freestyle 24.61

John Degonia 100 yard breaststroke 1:12.81

John Cardwell 100 yard backstroke 1:01.45

MOCO will finish up their season with away meets at the UGA Ramsey Student Center on Saturday, Jan. 19 and Saturday, Jan. 26.  The GHSA State Swimming Championships will occur from Thursday, Feb 7-9
