Willie Roland was born on May 20, 1932 to the late Will Roland and Minnie Woods. He was the oldest of 11 siblings. Six of them preceded him in dead, Ada, Anna, Ike, Mike, Cramen Robinson and one sibling died at birth.One son-in-law Richard Tory also preceded him in death.
He was ordained as a Deacon at Plainvew Baptist Church. He was married to the love of his life Eva G. Roland for 43 years, who preceded him in death. He was a dedicated, dependable and very faithful driver for Pennington Seed Co. for 66 years. “He started before Brooks Pennington had a business.” He loved driving his truck, spending time with his family and spoiling his grandchildren. He could put a smile on anyone’s face who encountered him.
On February 17, 2019 he was called home to rest because he had run the race, finished the fight and completed his course and he was ready to meet Jesus.
He leaves to mourn his passing eight children, Mr. and Mrs. John Etchinson Sr. (Julie) of Bostwick, Pharis Roland of Bostwick, Mr. and Mrs. Samuel Floyd (Annessia of Bostwick, Teresa Tory, Apostle Lavelda Jackson of Monroe, Connie Smith of Bostwick, Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Roland (Diane) of Ellenwood and Christine Roland of Covington. He is also survived by three sisters, Lucy Wingfield, Mattie Mae Williams, both of Atlanta and Ruth Binion of Madison; two brothers Thomas (Norma) Roland and Banks Roland of Atlanta.
He also leaves 16 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren, a special friend Atdrell James and many loving nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
Funeral service for Deacon Roland were held at 1 p.m. Saturday, February 23 at Plainview Baptist Church with the Rev. W. J. Reid and Rev. Gary Walker officiating. Interment was in the Plainview Baptist Church Cemetery.
Flower girls were his nieces and the pallbearers were his nephews.
Watts Funeral Home, Inc. of Union Point was in charge of arrangements.
