The Morgan County baseball team continued their winning ways with a second win over the AAAA Mary Persons Bulldogs 8-0 on Friday. Ethan Stamps and Jacob Anderson combined for the shutout with Stamps striking out 10 hitters over his five innings of work on the mound. Hunter Lane got things going offensively in the first inning with a solo homer and MOCO rode that lead to 5-0 until the top of the seventh. The Dogs put up three more runs in that stanza on RBI’s by Stamps and Lane.
It was another outstanding performance on the mound, in the field, and at the plate for the Dogs. Stamps got the win allowing only two hits and walking one while Anderson threw two innings of relief from the pen. In the field it was a single error that slightly marred an otherwise perfect day on defense. The offense was provided by Stamps going 2-5 with 2 RBI’s, Lane with a 2-4 day that included his dinger in the first and 2 RBI’s, and single RBI’s by Brandyn Batchelor (1-3), Dominic Arienzo (2-4), and Tristan Stapp (1-1). Seth Robinson also went 2-5 at the plate. Jaron Ferguson and Batchelor both scored twice for the Dogs.
Morgan now stands at 5-0 after the win with home games this week on Monday vs. Hebron Christian, Wednesday with Eastside, and Walnut Grove on Friday. All games will begin at 5:55 p.m.
Late news from Monday night’s baseball game vs. Hebron Christian. An anonymous tipper told us that Jacob Anderson got a 5-4 win and Tristan Stapp was the offensive hero. After falling behind 2-1, Stapp hit a two-run, second-inning homer to take a 3-2 lead early in the contest and came up with the game-winning hit in the eighth inning for the victory. Dogs go to 6-0 on the young season with the win.
