High School Girls – Cat Usry, SR – Soccer

Big things have been happening on and off the field for Cat Usry over the past couple of weeks.  Usry, captain of the 2019 Lady Bulldog soccer team, signed with Piedmont College last week to continue her academic and athletic career.  Usry will enroll in Piedmont’s nursing program, where she will enter as a junior.  Meanwhile, Usry and her teammates will continue their quest toward a region championship with a home match against Jackson County on Friday night.

High School Boys – Blake Silvey, SR – Baseball

Any question surrounding the catcher position for the 2019 MCHS baseball season has been answered by the play of Blake Silvey.  Silvey, who caught all 21 innings of Morgan County’s three-game region opening series versus Hart County, threw out four of four would-be base stealers.  Coach Merritt Ainslie described Silvey as a “rock behind the plate.”  Silvey’s offensive production was stout as well, as he posted an eye-opening .583 average for the series.
