A 26-year-old Morgan County man died tragically on Wednesday, March 6 after the Ford Mustang he was driving east on Greensboro Road left the roadway and struck a tree.
Brandon Patrick McCarthy was pronounced dead at the scene of the one vehicle wreck.
According to Georgia State Patrol reports, the Mustang McCarthy was driving failed to maintain the roadway, crossed over the centerline and struck a large tree with the front of the vehicle.
Reports state that both an airbag and seatbelt were in use at the time of the wreck. Georgia State Patrol Sgt. Justin Howard said investigators believe McCarthy struck the tree at approximately 8:30 p.m. Investigators found a receipt from a Subway restaurant in Madison with a time stamp of 8:07 p.m. the same day..
The vehicle was discovered at approximately 7 a.m. on Thursday, March 7 by a group of people passing by the area.
A celebration of life service is being planned for McCarthy in Tampa, Fla. The family has asked that in lieu of flowers, memorial donations be made to the Epilepsy Foundation at https://donate.epilepsy.com/ in the name of Brandon McCarthy.
