A Morgan County woman was poised to jump from an Interstate 20 bridge for more than 30 minutes before officers with the Georgia State Patrol, Morgan County Sheriff’s Office and Madison Police Department were able to talk her off the bridge.
According to Madison Police Department reports, the 29-year-old woman was on the Seven Islands Road bridge in Buckhead on March 24 at approximately 7 p.m. and threatening to jump into oncoming traffic.
Reports state that traffic on Seven Islands Road was blocked while officers, initially a Georgia State Patrol trooper, attempted to reason with the woman.
Reports state that the woman was sitting on the overpass rail with her feet dangling over the bridge and was threatening to jump. The woman was sitting facing westbound over the eastbound Interstate 20 traffic lane.
Reports state that initially the woman was uncooperative with officers but, when Madison Police Department Sgt. Jeremy Hoffman agreed via phone to meet with the woman at the Morgan Medical Center, the woman came off the bridge and was transported to Morgan Medical Center for evaluation.
Reports state Hoffman, who stated the woman is “a subject well known to me” spoke with the woman for approximately 30 minutes at the medical center before an evaluation order was signed by an emergency room doctor.
