A North Carolina man was killed on Interstate 20 last Wednesday after the truck he was driving left the pavement and struck a tree.

According to Georgia State Patrol Reports, Parada Norberto Carballo, 52, Charlotte was pronounced dead at the scene by Morgan County Fire Department and EMS personnel when they arrived at the crash site. Reports estimate the crash occurred at 2:05 p.m. near the 112.5 mile marker off the eastbound lane.

Reports state that Carballo was driving a dually pickup truck hauling a gooseneck trailer. On the trailer, the report says, were two pickup trucks. The dually developed a tire problem and left the left-hand lane and attempted to pull to the shoulder of the roadway.

However, Carballo apparently lost control of the vehicle and the truck and trailer left the roadway off the south shoulder, travelled 522 feet down a grass ditch before striking a tree. At the moment the truck struck the tree, reports state, the gooseneck trailer disconnected and its connection point entered the cab of the truck through the rear window.

Traffic on Interstate 20 eastbound was delayed while emergency personnel worked the accident.
