With the aim of keeping people in the greatest degree of well-being for the longest possible time, the Wellbridge Community of Madison has cleared land to build independent living, assisted living, and memory care facilities. The 75-acre pet-friendly campus at 1800 Bethany Road in Madison will be able to house 242 people, and reservations for residences are already being taken.
“On this campus, we have a real philosophy about wellness,” stated Executive Director Mary Jo Johnson-Gibbons.
“It’s about living and aging well. With that, our wellness program is really comprehensive not only from a physical fitness standpoint but also from a mental fitness standpoint … With the whole aging-in-place concept, our goal is to have people age in place as independently for as long as possible with home and community-based services.
“We do not have a skilled nursing facility on campus for the reasons that, number one, there are certificate of needs for beds, number two is because I believe the philosophy is many individuals are not going to nursing homes because their needs can be adequately met in the assisted living and memory care. The only time it wouldn’t be is if they really had some chronic complicated medical conditions, like a feeding tube for example. Then, yes, they do need to be in a skilled nursing facility where they get 24-hour a day nursing care. Ours is 24-hour a day staffing, but not nursing that whole time. With that said, we will be partnering with a number of healthcare providers.”
Computer lab, fitness center, indoor and outdoor pools, woodshop and work bench, and fitness and nature trails are just some of the planned features.
