It was a great weekend at the State Classic on Clarks Hill Lake for the local high school age fishing team from Morgan County. The two-day event saw the team of Cole Holloway and Ryan Thomas come away with a fourth place finish with a two-day weight of 24.52 pounds on an eight fish limit. Holloway bagged a 6.09 pound bass on day two to help lead the team to victory. The finish qualified them for the Bassmaster High School Championship to be held on Kentucky Lake in Tennessee in August. The team was captained by Mark Holloway.
Also competing were Landon Huff and Will Thomas with an eight-fish limit of 6.42 pounds, Cole Freeman and Mason Davis at 6.42 pounds, and Barrett Adams and Colby Brown at 11.14 pounds. Captains for the young anglers were Scott Huff, Gregg Thomas, and John Brandon, Jr. According to Coach Gregg Thomas, Brandon graciously filled in as sub for their regular captain.
Thomas said, “Cole and Landon will also be competing in the High School Fishing National Championship on Lake Pickwick and Wilson Lake in June. They qualified for this tournament last October in an FLW Open on Lake Murray.”
