The Morgan County Family Connection Collaborative started its annual backpack drive on June 3 and runs through July 13 in an effort to get kids school  supplies.

Leigh Anne Aaron, a Morgan and Oconee County Family and Consumer Science Extension agent, said the drive leads up to the Morgan County back to school rally.

“The goal is to collect 500 backpacks to distribute to Morgan County students at the Morgan County back to school rally,” she said.

The rally will take place on July 20 at the Morgan County High School gym from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m.

“There’s over 40 vendors… giving out school supplies, there will be fun activities for kids,” Aaron said. “The Morgan County High School Band and cheerleaders will be there for a little pep rally.”

The rally will include information about local community resources for students as well as hot dog grilling, according to Aaron.

People looking to donate backpacks before the rally can do so at the Madison-Morgan Boys and Girls Club and the Morgan County Library, Aaron said. Those who prefer a financial donation can send a check to the Morgan County Family Connection Office, she said.

“We definitely would like as many backpacks to be donated as possible to reach that 500 goal,” Aaron said.
