Mitylene Boykin Arnold died peacefully on July 9, 2019 in Waco, Texas. Mrs. Arnold lived in Madison and taught briefly at the Middle School. Her undergraduate degree was from Baylor University. She earned a Masters and Doctorate degrees from the University of Georgia before teaching at Ole Miss for 10 years. She moved home to Texas where she retired from an extended career at Texas A&M.
In addition to her teaching career, Mit authored several books to help special children and was a very good grant writer. Her projects had wide-reaching impact on special and poor families in Mississippi and Texas.
Mit will be remembered for her thick Southern accent, her sparkling wit and some salty language. She leaves two children, Rev. Susan Fortunato of Poughkeepsie, New York and Edward L. Arnold of San Antonio, Texas.
She will be buried in the Boykin Family Cemetery in Mart, Texas.
