Juanita Waters Jones of Madison departed this life on July 16, 2019 at Putnam County Health and Rehabilitation. She was 84 years old. She was born August 21, 1934 in Laurens County to the late Albert and Lucille Franklin Waters. She attended Laurens County Public Schools, Montrose School, Buckeye School and graduated from Oconee High School. She went on to further her education at Albany State University, where she earned a Bachelor of Arts Degree from Atlanta University in 1970 bio known as Clark Atlanta University.

On June 3, 1963 she married the late Franklin Jones. They had one son, Franklin Keith Jones who preceded her in death.

Juanita accepted Christ at an early age at Buckeye Baptist Church in Dublin, where she was an active member. After accepting a teaching position in Morgan County she fellowshipped with Springfield Baptist Church. She later united with Jackson Grove Missionary Baptist Church, where she served faithfully. She attended St. Paul A.M.E.regularly and enjoyed the fellowship and love. She served in many capacities in the church to include Sunday school teacher and a choir member.

Mrs. Jones was an outstanding teacher. She began her career at Vienne Elementary School in Vienna. She moved to Morgan County in 1964 to teach at Springfield Elementary School. She also taught at Pearl Street Elementary School, Morgan County Middle School and Morgan County Primary School. After retirement she taught G.E.D. classes.

She was a member of Georgia Retired Educators Association, Morgan County Retired Educators Association, Morgan County Health Board and a volunteer at the Morgan County African American Museum.

She was preceded in death by her grandparents, Judge and Mary Martin Franklin, her aunt Rosa Franklin Curtis who was 101 years old at the time of her death. Mrs. Jones was also preceded in death by two sisters, Teresa Wayne Payne and Levera Waters Plummer.

She leaves to cherish her memory a daughter-in-law Janel Sauls Jones; two grandchildren, Jillian Faith Jones and Franklin Theodore Jones; a sister Mary Waters Montford of Dublin; sisters-in-law Maxie G. Jones, Madison and Mary Pettiford of San Francisco, Calif.; brothers-in-law Henry Lee Harris Sr., Madison and Henry Clay Jones of Tacoma, Washington; a devoted niece Katrina R. Plummer of Dublin. She is also survived by a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends who loved and adored her.

Her funeral was held July 22 at 11 a.m. at Jackson Grove Baptist Church with Overseer E. Neal Dixon as the Eulogist.

Flower Bearers were Michelle Plummer Lowery, Cassandra M. Ford, Mary Greene, Martha Harris, Toni Jones and Cynthia Payne.

Pallbearers were Kenny Montford, Michael Plummer, Carl Jones, Donald Jones, Amos Barnard Jones and Henry Lee Harris Jr.

Jones and Turner Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
