A traffic stop in Buckhead led a Morgan County deputy to search the bag of a suspect and allegedly found hydrocodone, oxycodone, Ecstacy and a small amount of suspected marijuana.

According to Morgan County Sheriff’s Office reports, a deputy stated that on Saturday, July 27 at 11:40 a.m. he stopped a pickup truck driven by John Allen Barnett, 46, Madison for driving 68 mph in a 55 mph zone on Parks Mill Road near Oconee Road.

The deputy reported that after he had activated his emergency lights and siren the truck did not initially stop and when it did stop there was “excessive” movement in the cab.

Barnett allegedly told the deputy he had one alcohol drink that day after the stop. He also volunteered that there was a empty Michelob Lite beer bottle behind the passenger seat. The deputy noticed a blue backpack on the passenger seat and noticed prescription pills in Barnett’s name.

However, when he opened the bottles he allegedly found pills different from the prescriptions on the label, including a hydrocodone pill. In an empty Ibuprofen bottle the deputy allegedly located six Ecstacy pills. In a plastic bag in the backpack he found 17 oxycodone pills. In a Newport cigarette box he allegedly found 13 hydrocodone pills.

In one of the prescription pill bottles he also allegedly found a small amount of marijuana.

During a further search of the vehicle the deputy allegedly located a partially consumed bourbon drink and an opened bottle of Jack Daniel’s.

Barnett was arrested and charged with speeding, two counts open container, possession of prescription drugs not in the original container, possession of Ecstacy and three counts of possession of both oxycodone and hydrocodone.
