A Buckhead man has been arrested on charges of child molestation and sodomy.
Christopher Daniel Johnson, 21, turned himself in last Thursday, Sept. 12 after the Georgia Bureau of Investigations (GBI) determined probable cause and issued an arrest warrant.
Johnson is accused of sexually abusing a female minor over the course of four years, beginning when she was just 9-years-old, according to authorities. Johnson is approximately seven years older than the victim. The incidents allegedly took place between May 2014 and May 2018.
The GBI was requested to conduct the investigation by the Morgan County Sheriff’s Department. The investigation is ongoing and officials suspect there may be more victims.
“We began working the investigation and looking into the allegations and interviewing people, said GBI Special Agent Mary Chandler. “Throughout the investigation it was revealed we had probable cause to arrest Christopher Daniel Johnson on child molestation and sodomy. But there could be more charges coming.”
After arrest Johnson was transported to the Morgan County jail.
To protect the victim’s identity and privacy, investigators will not reveal how Johnson knew the victim. But Chandler warned that most child molestation incidents are carried out by a person who is close to the child.
“Very rarely is it a total stranger,” said Chandler. “It’s usually a family member, a teacher, a coach, or friend of the family. Someone the child knows and therefore doesn’t report right away. For someone to be able to do this again and again, they have to be able to manipulate the situation.”
According to Chandler the GBI may bring more charges against Johnson.
“We suspect there are more victims,” said Chandler.
Chandler encouraged any victims to come forward.
“Any more victims or people with information should contact us or Morgan County law enforcement,” said Chandler.
