Brother Ruben T. Walker of Madison, a Retired Morgan County Educator and current serving as Pastor of the Morgan County Church of Christ, Madison, departed this life Wednesday, October 9, 2019 at Morgan Medicasl Center in Madison. Ruben Thomas Walker was born September 5, 1950 to the late James and Gertrude Walker in Augusta, He was baptized into the Body of Christ at the D’Antignac Street Church of Christ in 1964. He was a 1968 graduate of Lucy C. Laney High School. He attended Augusta Area Vocation Technical School completing a course of study in Engineering Drafting. He got a Certificate in Retail Marketing at Athens Technical College. He also attended Southeastern Bible Institute in Doraville, where he earned his Bachelor’s Degree in Sacred Literature. Ruben served in the United States Navy and the Navy Reserve for eight years. He was employed with the Georgia Department of Transportation as an Illustrated Draftsmen. He served on the Morgan County Board of Education for four years and worked at the Morgan County Middle School as an ISS instructor for five years. He served on the Morgan County Tax Assessors Board. After retiring from the school system, he served as a mentor for middle school young men. He was a servant and pillar in the Morgan County community that many residents looked to for guidance and support.

Ruben served as minister for the Morgan County Church of Christ for 41 years. He believed in preaching the truth without addition or subtraction and loved spreading the gospel to others at every opportunity. He believes we should speak where the Bible speaks and be silent where the Bible is silent. He believed we cannot serve two masters. He believed God should be first in our lives, Ruben was a “Watchman”, Ezekiel 3:17, “Son of man, I have made thee a watchman unto the house of Israel: therefore hear the word at my mouth, and give them warning from me.” In 1971 Ruben married his high school sweetheart and love of his life, Hazel Aaron from Aiken, South Carolina; they were married for 48 years. God blessed them with two daughters, Elizabeth and Katrina and two sons-in-law, Marcus and Eimonnti. They have four granddaughters, Brooke, Morgan, Paige and Taylor. Ruben was preceded in death by his parents James and Gertrude Walker and two brothers, Floyd J. Brooks and James Walker III.  He leaves to cherish his memories his beloved wife Hazel Aaron Walker of Madison;  two daughters Elizabeth Walker Turner (Marcus) of Houston,Texas and Katrina Walker McDaniel (Eimonnti) of Power Springs,  four granddaughters Brooke Turner, Morgan Turner, Paige McDaniel and Taylor McDaniel; two brothers Jerry Walker (Mamie) of Augusta, Robert Walker (Evelyn) of Augusta,  and two sisters, Mattie Williams (Harry) of Riverdale and Patricia Walker of Augusta  and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, church members and close lifelong friends. 

Funeral services were held at 1 p.m.. Monday, October 14 at Morgan County Church Of Christ, 3531 Seven Islands Road, Madison, Georgia, Brother Terry Hawkins, Presiding, Brother Milton Sampson, Eulogist. Interment followed in the church cemetery. Visitation hours were Sunday, October 13,  from 4-6 p.m. at The Madison Chapel. Bernard’s Family Funeral Care, The Madison Chapel was in charge of arrangements.
