A Rutledge man arrested a year ago and charged with five counts of sexual exploitation of children pled guilty but mentally ill Monday morning in Morgan County Superior Court.

John Blake McLeod, 50, was arrested on Oct. 2, 2018 at his Dickson Road residence in Rutledge after members of the Morgan County Sheriff’s Office, Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) and Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) executed a search warrant on McLeod’s residence. Previous published reports stated that law enforcement officers found four images of child pornography on one of McLeod’s electronic devices in the residence.

McLeod was sentenced to 20 years with three years to serve and the remainder to be served on probation. He was also fined  $1,000 and ordered to register as a sex offender.

McLeod has been incarcerated at the Morgan County Detention Center since his arrest, according to Morgan County Sheriff Robert Markley.

Lt. Brandon Sellers, Morgan County Sheriff’s Office, said investigators with the Morgan County Sheriff’s Office, GBI and FBI had begun an investigation into McLeod after the GBI had received “cyber tips” on McLeod’s internet use. During the three hour execution of the search warrant officers confiscated a desktop computer, a tablet computer and a cell phone.

Per sentencing instructions, McLeod was also ordered “to obtain psychosexual evaluation and share report with probation officer.”
