In a timely turn of events, the Morgan County football team got a welcome surprise this week when they were given an opportunity to practice under the lights at the brand new practice field. The beautifully sodded and lighted field has been some time coming with a lack of funding holding up the progress of completing the field.
Donations from the community helped to complete the project. The practice came during a week when the squad is looking squarely at a possible second place Region 8-AAA finish. Hart County looms as the final obstacle of the regular season. Monday’s first-ever practice gave the team an added mental lift as they prepare for the orange and black Bulldogs Friday at Bill Corry Stadium.
Coach Brett Bell said, “It was a great environment for our first practice on our new fields! The players had “juice” as we prepare for a big game versus Hart County on Friday. Our players and coaches are grateful for all of the leaders who made this a possibility for our football team.”
“It was definitely worth the wait of three years! Those fields are fantastic! I think our guys enjoyed being the first ones to practice on them,” noted Head Coach Bill Malone. The facility will also be used by the marching band, soccer teams, physical education classes, ROTC, and others according to reports.
